April 8, 2022
The Swedish based sports media rights company Commercial Sports Media has been appointed by the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (PENNY DEL) to advise the league in the upcoming media rights sales process of all media rights inventory under PENNY DEL`s control.
The new agreement for PENNY DEL, starting with the 2024/25 season, will include more than 400 matches per season. German ice hockey in general, and the PENNY DEL in particular, have seen strong growth over the last years in terms of followers and sportive quality. PENNY DEL has three clubs among the top 10 in arena attendance rankings in Europe and the national team reached the final at the Winter Olympics 2018.
Commercial Sports Media has been chosen to be the exclusive advisor of PENNY DEL in the upcoming media negotiations, following very successful sales processes of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), Finnish Ice Hockey League (Liiga) and the top level league in Norway during the past years.
“We are very pleased that our previous work with ice hockey leagues and federations has been recognized in the European marketplace for sport media rights” says Jonas Persson, CEO of Commercial Sports Media.
“Ice hockey has gained a significantly improved position in the German sport and media market. From a sporting point of view, the years ahead look very interesting. The following of the top clubs is massive and the impressive work put in over time by the DEL and its partners is really paying off. The future for German ice hockey is great”, Jonas Persson continues.
PENNY DEL live programming is currently aired by Deutsche Telekom, via its MagentaSport OTT-service and with ServusTV for a selection of Free to Air matches.
“The PENNY DEL has become a strong brand and we are excited to further build on the successes we have had with the sport and in the German media market. We are convinced that having Commercial Sports Media as advisor is helping us to evaluate all options and add value to our media negotiations” says Gernot Tripcke, CEO Deutsche Eishockey Liga.
